Turn Any Hoop Into a Fire Hoop

By Synergy FlowArts | Updated 2026

What Is the Quick Wick® Fire Hoop Wick?

If you've ever watched a fire hoop performance and thought, "I wish I could do that with my hoop" — the Quick Wick® was made for you. The Quick Wick® is the original clamp-on fire hoop wick, invented by Scott Crews of Synergy FlowArts in North Carolina. It's a revolutionary fire performance accessory that lets you turn virtually any hoop into a fire hoop — without permanently modifying your prop.

Whether you're a complete beginner just stepping into the world of fire performance or an experienced fire dancer looking for a more versatile wick system, the Quick Wick® is one of the most practical and well-engineered fire hoop accessories on the market.

How the Quick Wick® Works

The Quick Wick® uses a stainless steel clamp-and-belt system that attaches directly to your hoop tubing. A flexible cable spine holds the wick head in place at approximately 5 inches from the outside of the tubing — keeping the flame just far enough away from your hoop tubing.

The clamp itself is designed so that it does not get hot during use, and the paper-thin belt is virtually unnoticeable when hooping. Once the wick is clamped on, it stays firmly in place for your entire performance.

Key specs at a glance:

  • Wick heads are approximately 1.5" tall x 1.5" wide
  • Spine length: approximately 5 inches from tubing to wick tip
  • Weight: approximately 1.8 ounces (about the weight of 6 quarters)
  • Material: Stainless steel construction for superior rust resistance
  • Handmade in North Carolina, USA
  • Backed by a Lifetime Warranty and Lifetime Replacement Program

Who Is the Quick Wick® For?

Beginners: Your First Step Into Fire Hooping

For hoopers who are new to fire performance, one of the biggest barriers to entry is cost and commitment. Traditional fire hoops are a significant investment, and once you buy one, you're locked into that hoop size — which is a problem because hoop size changes as your skill level evolves.

The Quick Wick® solves this perfectly. You can attach Quick Wicks® to the hoop you already own and love, practice fire hooping at a fraction of the cost of buying a dedicated fire hoop, and then upgrade or change your setup as you grow — without losing your investment.

Experienced Fire Performers: Maximum Versatility

For seasoned fire dancers, the Quick Wick® opens up a world of creative freedom. Because the wicks are removable and compatible with virtually any tubing, you can:

  • Swap wicks between multiple hoops depending on the performance
  • Use different hoop sizes for different routines without needing a dedicated fire hoop for each
  • Attach Quick Wicks® to mini hoops, LED hoops (note: may void warranty), staffs, poles, bike axles, helmets, and more
  • Mix and match wick counts depending on the look and burn time you need

Quick Wick® Sizing Guide

Getting the right size Quick Wick® is critical. Sizes are based on the Outside Diameter (OD) of your hoop tubing — not the overall hoop diameter. Here are the available sizes:

Size Outside Diameter Metric Equivalent
5/8" OD 5/8 inch 14–16 mm
3/4" OD 3/4 inch 19–20 mm
1.1" OD 1.1 inch 27–28 mm
1.5" OD* 1.5 inch 38–39 mm
1.8" OD* 1.8 inch 45–46 mm
2.2" OD* 2.2 inch 55–56 mm
3.3" OD* 3.3 inch 83–84 mm

Sizes 1.5" and above use an additional extension clamp to increase the clamping range for larger diameter props like lyras, poles, and bicycles.

Pro tip: If you can't easily measure your tubing diameter, wrap a measuring tape or string around the tubing to get the circumference, then divide by pi (3.14159). For example: 5/8" diameter = 1.96" circumference, 3/4" diameter = 2.35" circumference.

Creative Uses Beyond the Fire Hoop

One of the most exciting things about the Quick Wick® is how versatile it is beyond traditional fire hooping. Because it clamps onto any tube or pole, fire performers and flow artists have used it on:

  • Fire staffs — add wicks to the ends or anywhere along the shaft
  • Bicycles — for fire bike performances and events
  • Helmets — for dramatic fire headpiece effects
  • Lyras and aerial hoops — using extension clamps for larger diameters
  • Poles — for fire pole performances

The Quick Wick® is really only limited by your imagination. We've even had customers attached them to their roller skates.

Care, Maintenance & the Lifetime Warranty

The Quick Wick® is built to last. With proper care, Synergy FlowArts states it's designed to last several lifetimes. Stainless steel construction means excellent resistance to rust and corrosion even with regular fuel exposure.

Every Quick Wick® comes backed by Synergy FlowArts' Lifetime Warranty on manufacturing defects, as well as their Lifetime Replacement Program — one of the strongest guarantees in the fire performance industry.

Pair Your Quick Wicks® With These Accessories

To get the most out of your Quick Wick® setup, consider pairing them with:

  • Wick Covers — heavy-duty water-resistant canvas covers to protect your wicks between performances and extend wick life
  • Kevlar Sleeves — fire dancers' best friend for hand and wrist protection during fire performance
  • Nut Driver — a tool for tightening and adjusting Quick Wick® clamps that makes it a few points easier than the standard flathead screwdriver

Frequently Asked Questions About the Quick Wick®

Can I use the Quick Wick® on a polypro hoop? Yes — Quick Wicks® are compatible with polypro, HDPE, and other common hoop tubing materials. Just make sure you select the correct size based on your tubing's outside diameter.

Does the clamp scratch or damage my hoop? The clamp tightens so securely that it will likely put some small indentations in your tubing.  You can avoid this by adding a couple layers of thick tape (like gaffers tape) around the spot on your tubing where the clamp will be tightened.

Can I use Quick Wicks® on an LED hoop? Technically yes, but note this could void the warranty on your LED hoop. Proceed with caution and check with the LED hoop manufacturer first.

How many Quick Wicks® do I need for a fire hoop? It depends on the size of your hoop and your desired burn effect. Most fire hoopers use between 3–6 wicks on a standard hoop.

What fuel do Quick Wicks® use? Quick Wicks® are compatible with standard fire performance fuels. Always follow fire safety best practices — visit Synergy FlowArts' Fire Safety page for guidance.
